Talk by John Nichols co-author of Dollarocracy given May 3, 2014 as part of the 28th Amendment National Roadshow at the Common Good Cafe at University Temple United Methodist Church in Seattle.

My thoughts; Great speaker. Great points. Great passion. There is a wonderful book by Prof. Michael Perelman entitled The Invention of Capitalism that maps out the strategy of those rich white men to consolidate wealth and power and to enslave the men and women who were living freely on the land in a self sustaining manner. The cunning, the violence, the trickery that was used to take away our rights to live free and happy lives on our own determinism is breathtaking. Since the beginning of this strategy the wealthy have used their wealth and power to twist the laws, the governments, the financial system to favor them and to exploit us. http://libcom.org/files/The%20Invention%20of%20Capitalism.pdfIf we stop at an amendment that keeps the wealthy folks’ money out of politics we will be attacked on other fronts where we are vulnerable, the rich will take our jobs and make us homeless, they will manipulate the banking system to keep us out of homes and force us into their rental properties while driving up the cost so we all have to work longer at the few, lesser paid jobs that the wealthy dole out to us and the rest of us are too desperate to fight. They will manipulate the laws so that only they may own the water rights, the land, the resources that we all need to live. What we need is an amendment that makes it the human right, and the birthright of each of us to a free and a fair share of the land and its resources so we can live freely without coercion or threat from anyone. Our government holds in trust for us nearly 30% of our land which is equivalent to 1,115,344 square miles and is equal to the combined land masses of Great Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Poland, Greece, New Zealand, Ireland, Bahrain, Hong Kong, Liechtenstein, the Cayman Islands, Anguilla, and Bermuda. This amount of land holds 60 million more people than the ENTIRE population of America yet we can find no land, no safe bases in which our 50 million desperately poor can stably rest, and shelter, and grow their own food supply. Getting money out of politics will not help these Americans; insisting on land reform will. And it will strengthen the rest of us so that the rich cannot manipulate us on other fronts of their invention. http://flowingdata.com/2009/11/13/land-mass-and-population-by-country/

Only when each man and woman has a RIGHT to live freely on our own homeland will we have created a truly free people in America. When we can live for the first time without the invented threat of landlessness, of homelessness, of joblessness that puts us always in thrall to the corp/gov machinery of the rich we will have the time and space to create a new social design that is by and for the people.

Let’s not waste this passion, this movement on a half measure, let’s be wise enough, this once, to insist on real personal freedom for every American through an amendment that protects us at the most basic level of our lives – our need for a steady land base, a secure shelter, and the means to create our own, self sustaining food supply. Free land = free people; Free people = power.
